iBOLT car charging dock for the Samsung Galaxy S3 review

Full Article

When it comes to buying accessories for my smartphone, I tend to spend time shopping around and sometimes find it difficult to find one that will not fall apart after few days or weeks whilst still spending as little as possible (a bargain).

I have never been a big fan of car docking kits from the internet as I have never had the best of luck in getting one that is sturdy, easy to install and fit for purpose; the iBolt car charging dock for the Samsung Galaxy S3 is an intelligent device that not only serves as a docking kit but also allows you to charge your phone in landscape mode, and with the provided 3.5mm audio lead, you can connect it via auxiliary port to your car stereo system.

The package is very simple and certainly does not need a degree to get up and running however you still get a quick setup guide to help setup, the video below will show you exactly what you get and how it looks with the Galaxy S3 placed in it:

Installation in the car is very simple, all you need to do is place your Galaxy S3 inside, mount the dock to your visor or dashboard, connect the charger and audio cable, plug the other end in your USB car charger and auxiliary port, close the tab at the top to keep your smartphone tightly secured and you are good to go.  When you have everything connected, you will notice a blue LED light that lights up to let you know you’re charging, and your phone should automatically kick into car dock mode (please note with Jelly Bean update to the Galaxy S3 there is no longer a car mode option in the menu, instead any settings that needs adjusting will be in accessory menu).

What I liked about the product is the thought process that has gone into it; previously purchased docking kit with suction area doesn’t stay sturdy on the dashboard due to the lack of a smooth surface, what iBolt has supplied is a smooth disk that you can place down to provide the perfect suction for your kit.  They also provided a cable that is just under 3 meters long, meaning you can possible have it on either side of the vehicle and it does not matter how big your car is, it will work.

Not only can you use it for satellite navigation and as a music station for your car, you can also use it for recording your trip or if you have a video diary, it would allow for sturdy recording of your video diary whilst driving.
