Archos 18d is a Budget music and video player with FM radio and voice recording capabilities.  If you are looking for a low budget multimedia device that will last a long journey, then this device will be perfect for you.

The 18d Vision won’t  has a 1.8-inch color TFT screen with a cool design for the money; although the plastic finishing looks and feels cheap but can’t complain for the price point.

Opening the the packaging is

  • the Archos 18d
  • headphones
  • USB cable
  • User manual

Once you are ready to use, you will notice the four-way pad on the front, two buttons (play/select and menu/cancel) on the left, and an off-off rocker switch on the right.  The  main menu provides you with options for music, video, voice recorder and FM radio.  During play you can see the volume level and can also display your song lyrics if included with audio.

Using the Archos 18d vision
You can use the USB cable included to transfer MP3 files to your device although you will find if you have AAC and WMA files you will need to convert them to MP3 files bore they can be supported for playback on the Archos 18d vision.

Once you have your music on, you can play back and also control the EQ to get the best out of your music; the headphones included may not give you the best sound quality but you can purchase a decent headphone with high sound quality.

The 18d Vision is also capable of playing video as long as it’s  AVI format which again means you will need to convert from other formats.  The screen size is also small I find when watching video files and you will get easily distracted whilst watching clips however, the screen quality is good enough for viewing angles when it comes to you and a friend watching videos together.

You also have the voice recorder if you happen to be a student, this could be a cool feature for recording lectures and playing back later and if you run out of music files or get bored of your playlist, you can simply change to the FM audio and listen to your favorite radio stations.

Verdict

It’s a decent device with entry level buyers and tight budget buyers in mind.  It comes with all the features to get you up and running.  Having to convert files can be a little tedious.  Battery life is a bonus.
