Edifier e1100 Plus 2.1 speaker system
:
Solid, stylish and sounds great at low levels.:
The subwoofer started loosing quality and over powered the two satellite speakers at high levels. The Edifier e1100 Plus 2.1 speaker system is a uniquely designed and stylish speaker system for PC and Laptop with a piano black glossy finish,
Buying a PC can be difficult sometimes especially when you have no idea what you are buying and the other issue is that most systems will either come with no speakers or a set of cheaply made speakers with horrible sound quality. So the best thing to do is add the extra expense and invest in a decent set of 2.1 speaker systems.
I currently own a set of some logitech X-230 which when cranked up to the highest volume or even at low levels, the sound is really clean and the bass is just perfect, however the only downside is that I have to hide them under my desk because they do not look good; so I went shopping for a new set of 2.1 to replace them and with the expectations already in mind, the next one I try will need to be as good or better.
The Edifier e1100 Plus looked really nice and out of this world in design when I saw it on Edifier’s website and the numbers of wattage doesn’t mean anything until I have my music through it to see how good the quality is.

Opening up the box, the shiny alien looking speakers looked curvy and nice and first impression was it would sit very nice on my glass desk; let’s see what else you get in the box:

The two satellite speakers and the subwoofer are enclosed in piano black glossy finish plastic but all feels solid; the glossy finish suffered a little from finger marks but once you place it where it will be, wipe it and it won’t need wiping or touching again. The Subwoofer has a volume dial on top of it with a cool blue glow when it’s switched on; the subwoofer and the two speakers also sit on an aluminium look plastic stands with the woofer facing down underneath it.
Edifier did not include a remote control so you would have to manually change your volume although that is not a problem as such as most 2.1 systems will not include remote control. You only have a knob for the bass control with no support for treble control; behind the subwoofer are the audio ports and the bass control knob.
Sound Quality
This is the most important area when buying a set of speakers; the Edifier e1100 Plus satellite speakers performed impressively very well giving a clear and well balanced sound quality which is what I would expect from such manufacturer and a solidly built set of speakers.
At low levels the speakers performed very well , so the next step was to put some music on with good amount of bass; this is where the subwoofer started vibrating against the plastic sound and started producing crackling sounds especially with the bass cranked up to maximum; that I have never experienced with my current Logitech system. I thought it could be an issue with the sound quality from Spotify and my PC so I connected it to my iPhone and got the same sound quality with the subwoofer still crackling.
Verdict
For the price point of around £40.00, the stylish Edifier e1100 Plus looks the part when placed on the desk and the glossy finish is also great, the two satellite speakers performed very well but the subwoofer was a little disappointing.
