What's This?

Apple has officially announced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at their event at Flint Center, alongside Apple Pay and Apple Watch. The two new smartphones will be available in September 12 for pre-order.

The iPhone 6 has a new design, seen in countless leaks beforehand. The iPhone 6 will have a 4.7-inch 1334 x 750 display, while the iPhone 6 Plus will get a full 1920 x 1080 display, neither will have sapphire crystal glass.

Inside the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sits the new A8 64bit chip, with 20 percent faster CPU speed and 50 percent faster GPU speed. The chip is 13 percent smaller than the previous A7 chip and Apple has bundled the new M8 motion processor inside.

Battery life has been upgraded, especially on the iPhone 6 Plus. On the iPhone 6, 3G Talk time is up to 14 hours, on the iPhone 6 Plus it hits 24 hours. We will have to test the two phones before we know for sure, but those are good numbers.

Apple has added 20 LTE bands, WiFi ac and a new feature called WiFi Call, allowing users to call over WiFi and instantly connect to cellular, if they lose the WiFi connection. T-Mobile in the US and EE in the UK will be the first carriers to adopt this new feature.

The camera on the iPhone 6 is being upgraded again, but not on the megapixels. Apple will continue the 8MP iSight camera, but this comes with a new sensor, capable of taking better shots, with new features like Burst Mode and 240fps video, for super slow motion videos. On the iPhone 6 Plus, users will get optical image stabilisation technology.

Apple will be bringing the iPhone to over 200 carriers in 199 countries in the world and hopes to make it available worldwide before the end of 2014. The iPhone 6 will start at $199 for 16GB or $299 for 64GB, with a $399 128GB version. The iPhone 6 Plus will start at $299. No word on UK prices, but we expect largely the same as last year.
