What's This?

Apple has sent out invites for their October 16 event, which will be held in Cupertino, California, in Apple’s HQ.

After the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, this looks to be a quieter event. The main attraction will reportedly be the two new iPads, the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini with Retina Display 2. Both will receive small updates internally and reports say the iPad Air will be trimmed down a touch, removing the mute/vibrate button on the side.

There were rumors of a 12-inch iPad Pro coming to the event, but those rumors have been squelched in the past few months, with the only source talking about it being DigiTimes. Supposably, according to those leaks, Apple will mesh OS X and iOS together, but we cannot see this happening.

One thing we’re sure to see is new iMacs. Apple has been holding off Retina Display iMacs for some time now, and this should be the year. The iMacs already look the part with an incredibly thin profile, but they need the screen to match.

The MacBook Pro and Air lineup could do with a refresh as well, following two years of small iterative updates. The MacBook Air is already thin enough, but a visual refresh every two years is customary from Apple. The MacBook Pro could use a trim, we believe this year will be the last time we see a non-Retina MacBook Pro on the Apple Store.

On the invite it says “It’s been way too long”, potentially hinting at a new product getting revamped. We are not sure if a Retina Display on the iMac is such a big deal, meaning this may be a new iPod or perhaps some change to the Apple TV.

It all happens on October 16. For reference, most reports claim Google will be launching the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 sometime on that week; this could be the biggest week in tech news.
