What's This?

Samsung has been working on advertising and smartphone features for the past three years now, ever since the Galaxy S2 hit markets worldwide and exploded with popularity.

In 2014, the South Korean electronics giant has finally achieved victory against Apple in some small way. According to iQMetrix, the Galaxy S5 surpassed the iPhone 5S in overall sales for the opening weekend.

The numbers are a little shaky, 25 percent of all phones sold on the April launch weekend were Galaxy S5 units, whereas on Apple’s opening weekend they only managed 18 percent of the total sales in the US.

We should note that the United States has been home for Apple in terms of brand recognition, with millions preferring an iPhone to a smartphone from a company in Asia, like Samsung or LG.

In another statistic, the information shows the most prominent area of the United States for the Galaxy S5 sales was the North West, where 41 percent of all phones sold on the opening weekend were Galaxy S5 units.

We still don’t know about other areas, Samsung announced 10 million sales on opening week for the Galaxy S5, while we only know Apple sold 9 million iPhone 5S and 5C units in two days.

This could mean Apple are still slightly ahead in terms of global sales, although considering Samsung’s market dominance in certain countries where Apple are not present, it may have tilted it slightly in Samsung’s favor.

The two giants will continue to take picks at one another, but when Apple releases the iPhone 6 we expect new records to be set, which Samsung will not be able to push back until they get the Galaxy S6 in shops, sometime next year.

Apple always seems to do better on the number change and less impressive on the S model, showing consumers want change and not the same design with some improved specs.
