What's This?

Nowadays we don’t go anywhere without our smartphones. Sometimes we use phones to make calls, but more often than not we do everything else a smartphone lets us do. We browse on the internet and app on our way to work, play games in the bathroom and take pictures of our food to show the world what we’re eating. But using all that data costs money. Whether you have a pay monthly or a Pay As You Go plan doesn’t matter, data usage can get out of hand really fast. But how does it happen?

Let’s take a look at your apps

If you run out of data fast and don’t know why, you should really take a look at the apps on your phone. Apps are easy to use and there are loads of them out there. When you have an app, you probably check them more than a few times a day, which will cost you precious data!

How many data do my apps use?

There is one very popular app that can cost you a lot, and it’s called Spotify. By listening to new songs (not your downloaded playlist) for half an hour you will use over 1000mb. Watching just a 10 minute video on Youtube could cost you 400mb. These might not come as a surprise. But did you now you use 50MB by sending just 10 tweets or Facebook updates a day? Browsing and visiting 5 websites a day could be 150mb. Ofcourse the numbers could vary, but it’s good to keep in mind!

So I won’t use apps as much

Minimizing your app use won’t be enough because apps tend to keep running in the background. There are  several sneaky data-sucking apps people tend to forget about. For one, make sure you close an app accordingly. Only pressing a return button doesn’t close apps! Another quick fix is to enable  “Only on Wi-Fi” options in the settings of all the apps you use and restrict app updates to Wi-Fi only.

Download a Data-Monitoring app
