Sony has confirmed they will be running the Xperia range on a six month release cycle, instead of annually like Samsung and HTC. This makes keeping innovation strong harder, because the company only has six months to develop the next flagship.
The new leak, our first look at the Xperia Z3, comes alongside a smaller version, apparently the Xperia Z3 Compact. Both of these phones have very similar features to the Xperia Z2 and show Sony’s design philosophy has not changed this year for phones.
Sony has the OmniBalance design framework for smartphones and other devices and is sticking to it this year. We still don’t know what time the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact will make it into the market, reports say IFA could be the place.
We have heard nothing when it comes to specs for the Xperia Z3. Considering most new smartphones run on Snapdragon 805 processors and 3GB of RAM, this is what will most likely come on the Xperia Z3, alongside a 2K display.
Sony has been a bit late to the party when it comes to high-end specs, compared to LG and Samsung who get it right most of the time, on the flip side Sony’s design and OS skin is better than Samsung and LGs.
The IFA show in Berlin is the normal spot for the Galaxy Note launch, it would be a strong move by Sony to announce the Xperia Z3 at the same event. No word if the Xperia Z3 Compact will launch at the same event or a few months afterward.
It is interesting that the Xperia Z3 Compact is still considered a device, when the Xperia Z2 Compact is not even available yet. Perhaps this will follow another line of devices from Sony, because we cannot see two Compact devices coming this year.
