What GadgetsBoy thinks of the ATC9K HD Action Camera

On opening the box up to start using the ATC9K HD Action Camera, first thing noticed is that it comes with all you need to get started and now you can even get the GPS module from the Oregon Scientific for £249.99. If you engage in bike riding, skateboarding or surfing then this camera is for you, it is light weight, waterproof to a depth of 20m/60ft, shock resistant, easy to secure to your helmet, bike handle or even your surf board; it will capture your action at full 1080p HD, however if you are involved in a much faster sport you might want to capture your action at 720p as it can deliver 60fps (Frames Per Second) at 720p. You have a continuous shooting at 5mp and combining that with 60fps you can get some cool slow motion effect. It is not just an action camera with few options, you can add effects just like any other camera like black and white or sepia effect to switch things up a bit. If you are technical and would like to measure force of gravity during acceleration, deceleration and hangtime, the ATC9K HD Action Camera has a built-in G-Sensor will do just that for you using pseudo-sphere graph.

The human eyes has about 95 degree FOV, but the ATC9K HD Action Camera has a 130 degree field of view as mentioned in the features, which is perfectly capable of capturing wide angle shots and create some special effects if you are good at editing. You can use it for taking pictures as well as shooting action video. One thing we tried it with also is mounting it in the car whilst driving to help review how well the learner driver did after the driving lesson, which means there are various situations in which it can be used.

Accessories needed

Battery

GorillaPod

Although the Camera comes loaded with equipment needed to get started, it would be useful to get yourself a 32GB Micro SD card so you never have to worry about not shooting the important action due to lack or memory. You can also get the GPS module sold separately to track your speed and distance traveled during the course of your recording. Other luxury purchase that’s not so important would be a Gorillapod so you can hang your camera anywhere you like and maybe a spare battery just to make sure you never miss those vital action.
