What's This?

After reviewing the Zepp Golf glove mounted sensor, I took interest in the Tennis racket-mounted sensor for improving my tennis skills and just like the Golf version, I was not disappointed with its performance.  All you have to do is mount the sensor on your racket, it then captures, measures and analyses your swing.  You can then view the data on your smartphone or tablet using the free app that accompanies it.

What it looks like

Measuring just 28 mm x 28 mm and 11mm thick, it’s non intrusive and once mounted using either the pro mount or the flex mount, you can play without even thinking about it being there.  It captures a lot of data from racket speed, ball speed potential, spin, backswing time to impact time in 3D serving mode, or using the play tracking mode, you can capture total swings, of which your forehand, backhand and serves are scored on an easy to read pie chart.

It measures the power exerted when swinging and displayed on a line graph, showing power during different shot types and your average across all of your shots. Besides spin measurement and court time, I found the sweetspot measurement quite interesting as it shows a great picture of your habits when hitting the ball, showing a percentage of which parts of the racket you use the most for various shot types.

The main thing to remember when using the Zepp Tennis sensor is to play as naturally as possible, so the way you would normally play without worrying too much about the sensor monitoring your skills.  Doing so means the data would be more accurate than when you play with a conscious mind of the sensor being there.  The device is not there to play for you, but to help improve how you hit, the power exerted and your backswings amongst other things measured.  It’s a great tool, pricey but will help anyone who is in to win it.
