Mutewatch Review
Positive:
Great design, innovative features.Negative:
Price. The Mutewatch is designed to be simple and intuitive. Just tap the flat surface and the touch screen lights up, then swipe through the clock, alarm and timer functions.
Watches have gone from been just a time telling device on the wall, or our wrist anymore, they are been improved with time and how fast technology is growing. Most watches now need to have something that makes them stand out from the crowd, and with so much variety of technology and a little bit of some innovative team, you are bound to make the right product with its own unique selling point.
Mutewatch has become a watch that I have fell in love with, not only because it tells me time accurately, but because I love gadgets and anything that makes me wow, it goes on to my favourite gadgets list. From the packaging to its design to its funcationlity and practicality, it is one to reckon with when thinking of buying a watch.
Design
The Mutewatch has a unique design, with the uni-body that has no buttons, no screws; just a one piece soft light rubber with a press button to keep it secure on the wrist. It is ever so comfortable to wear causing the wrist and the bare skin no irritation at all. The soft but durable rubber used will keep it waterproof up to 100 meters and the area surrounding the LCD touchscreen will keep the device protected if dropped. The front face of the watch is set at an angle so it is easier to view the time and also helps the motion sensor when rotating your wrist to view the time.

Although it is waterproof to certain extent, it is not scratch resistant, so if you love it, take care of it. With such a minimalist design, there is not much to say about how it looks other than how much it grabs onlookers’s attention; visiting Starbucks, cloking in at the gym, paying for groceries people can not help but look and ask about what it is.

The reason why it is called a “mute” watch is not just about the silent yet eye catching design, it is how it has no buttons and makes no sounds, however it will vibrate for long or short intervals.
Setting up and using the Mutewatch
The Mutewatch has a capacitive touch screen allowing gentle touch without over sensitivity and shows the time in the form of LED’s. Tapping the face will wake up the Mutewatch and allow you to cycle through the three modes namely the alarm, timer, clock mode and to set how long you want the watch to vibrate for.

The manual included and video provided by Mutewatch via their YouTube channel makes it very easy to get setup and running; at first you need to plug it in a USB port to wake it up then to set the time all you do is tap and hold with your two thumbs till it vibrates and flashing, then swipe up or down to cycle through the numbers, and same method goes with setting the timer or the alarm.
Thanks to the motion sensor or accelerometer, you can wake up the Mutewatch to tell the time just by rotating your wrist as if you are about to read the time then it goes silent again saving the battery life.
Powered by a rechargeable battery that can last for 3-4 days depending on usage, and I was able to get 3 days on most days due to heavy usage and people around me fascinated with touching it. To recharge it, all you need is a powered USB port like your iPhone’s USB wall plug and will take around 2 hours to fully charge. When the battery is low it’ll show “BATT” on the screen.
Verdict
I have really enjoyed my time with the Mutewatch and unfortunately has to go back, however at the price tag of £200 I do not think I will be buying one due to the hefty price tag and it being the first generation from the innovators. I do hope to see some extra feature added in the next generation of Mutewatch like option to modify the time font, the font colour and since they are innovators, add some more cool features. I have enjoyed using it, especially using it as an alarm because it vibrates rather than make a loud noise that wakes up my partner when I have to get up earlier than she would. It has also been a useful tool in tracking time Mutely when doing time constraint presentations.
