What's This?

If you’re the type to leave your umbrella behind when dining out, visiting a friend or whatever, this umbrella will solve that problem for you. Beyond just making sure you don’t lose it, it’s also reinforced to withstand wind, corrosion, it’s built with a perfect opening and closing mechanism and with high-precision stitching, it looks and feels solid/premium. Built with 16 fiberglass ribs, it’s very strong and made to last, in fact the manufacturer offers a 2-year warranty and a 90-day no-questions-asked return policy if you decide it’s not for you.

So what’s this umbrella we talk about? It’s the Kisha Umbrella classic (other versions available, check the website for more).  They reached out to me on Twitter and at first I questioned why I’d need something like that, and I could just replace my umbrella if it breaks or if I lose it, but the inconvenience that causes means it got my attention.  It may not be for everyone, it’s 92 cm from ferrule to crook handle and
108 cm from tip to tip, so those who prefer a compact umbrella you may want to rethink this one.

With so many smart things on the market these days, I was very quick to call it a smart umbrella. It features a tracker that pairs with your smartphone via a free app for reminding you when you lose your umbrella, locating it on a map (you can even boost location radius when in buildings). The free app displays weather forecast and notifies you in the morning if you should take your umbrella based on precipitation chance (no need to ask Siri).

In reality, when the wind blows a normal umbrella, the ribs fold and it ends up breaking, however where Kisha shines is that it’s built to allow the back fold and you can simply flick it back to continue with your journey with no stress.

The app is great for tracking and the device embedded in the folding strap is very responsive and simple to use with just one button to press for pairing.  You only need to remove it once for pairing, and maybe in up to six months time when you need to replace the battery, which is also very easy to install.
