Pastry Panic for iPhone and iPad Review
Brought to you by Underground Pixel, Pastry Panic is a fun donut eating game. There is a huge problem at the Pastry factory, there are cogs and bolts loose and thrown around the factory. If they are not collected quickly the factory will be no more. It is time to get moving and collect these bolts and be rewarded with tasty pastries as you go. How can you refuse an offer like that?
The idea is you control a hungry little creature around the factory. You need to collect all the cogs and bolts scattered on the conveyor belts. Every time you miss one you lose a part of your life so if you miss too many the game is over and you will have to start all over again.
There are three game modes to try. Mad Dash, Tongue Tied and Jumper. Mad Dash you move along the conveyor belts left and right and up and down. As soon as you see bolts and cogs you need to collect them. You will notice lots of pastries as well, collect them for extra points. Tongue Tied you are stuck in the middle of the screen and you use the tongue to whip out and grab the bolts and treats. The last one Jumper is lots of little platforms which you swipe to jump from one to the other, left and right and up and down.
Each mode offers you a choice from four places, Factory, Freezer, Kitchen and Space. My personal favourite was the Freezer which looks really cool (see what I did there) and carries all the bolts and donuts inside little icecubes. There are also special donuts and buns that may appear and ones that can help you. For example there is one that collects all the bolts for you on the screen.
Collecting the pastries will score you coins. Collect enough of them and you will be able to purchase items at the hat shop. Items like a new character or hats, lots of them! You can even grab a new filter to add a different look to the game.
The controls are very easy, in Mad Dash you touch your screen for left and right movement and swipe to go up and down. With Tongue Tied you just tap where you want the tongue to flick.
The retina graphics and great pixel art really give it a nice retro feel to it. It is also complimented with some neat retro music. Pastry panic is a fun quick pick up and play game. With Game Center integration and achievements to unlock there is lots of content to keep you coming back and playing. There is also a light version available now so you can give it a try to see if you like it first, but Pastry Panic is a great game and definitely worth a purchase.
