What's This?

It has been rumored for some time that two Galaxy S5 models will be announced at Samsung’s Unpacked event at Mobile World Congress, instead of just the usual one flagship with several break-off devices.

Today, we got word the high-end model will be named the Galaxy S5 Prime and will come with a metallic unibody design, instead of the plastic or faux leather design we have previously seen on Samsung’s high-end devices.

A recent teaser pushed out by Samsung leads us to believe one of the devices, more likely the S5 Prime, will be water resistant and have some new fitness functionality, alongside slow motion recording.

On the internals side, the Galaxy S5 Prime should have a 5.25-inch AMOLED 2K display, 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 or eight-core Exynos 6 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 3000mAh battery, alongside Bluetooth 4.0, LTE-A and WiFi ac.

Samsung will apparently add some new features onto the Galaxy S5 Prime’s camera, including a 16MP rear sensor, optical image stabilisation, slow motion, 4K video capture and a new UI to take advantage of customisation photos.

The idea of two Galaxy S5 smartphones may seem a little odd, but it mimics Apple’s plan with the iPhone 5S and 5C, adding one with plastic for emerging markets and the other for high-end customers.

It may be a little harder for Samsung to sling the premium device, unless they can truly design it with some gusto, to match the HTC One and iPhone 5S, with their hard aluminium unibody design.

Even if this does happen, we are undoubtably going to see the Galaxy S5 Mini, a smaller version with mid-range specs, the Galaxy S5 Zoom, with a more impressive camera. The Galaxy S5 Active may be benched, considering the S5 Prime will have water resistance.

GadgetsBoy will be live at Mobile World Congress, stay tuned for news live at the event!
