What's This?

Samsung has decided to announce another variation on the Galaxy S4, alongside a new Galaxy S4 Mini version. Both new models come with the black leather stitching we have seen on the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy tablet lines.

There have been a lot of changes and iterations to the Galaxy S4, what started as a Snapdragon 600 smartphone quickly became a Snapdragon 800, then we got different colors and the Galaxy S4 Zoom and Active.

This new update looks like closure of the Galaxy S4 lineup, bringing it into the faux leather stitching world. The Galaxy S4 may have been the last flagship device from Samsung to carry the slimy plastic.

Currently, the only color available is black leather on both the Galaxy S4 and S4 Mini. The change will only be available in Russia at the start, for RUB 23,000 ($660) or RUB 16,000 ($460) for the Galaxy S4 Mini.

There is no internal change on this iteration, we are not sure what processor the phone gets in Russia, we would assume it is still the Qualcomm Snapdragon, although it may be the octa-core Exynos 5.

We believe Samsung will roll this update out in due time, adding more colors to the range before and after the Galaxy S5 launch. Considering the Galaxy S4 is still making millions of sales per quarter, Samsung still has a lot of interest in updating the device.

On the Galaxy S5 side, we do not know what the design will be – reports say this will be the first metallic smartphone from Samsung, but others believe Samsung will add the same faux leather backing to the device.

The internals will be the real winner for the Galaxy S5, with Samsung investing a lot into making a new Exynos 6 processor and new chipset structure, including 64bit architecture.
