What's This?

I still remember the first pebble smart watch launching on kickstarter like yesterday. It smashed the goal in no time and went on to be one of the most successful kickstarter projects ever. When the next generation launched, I backed it again as it was a great improvement in terms of the design and functionality.

The software was updated and the accompanying app was also improved to deliver a better user experience. Along the way, there were hiccups here and there like late delivery, paying import fees, strange lines on the screen after a while and others I couldn’t care less to talk about. Despite those hiccups, I still decided to back it this time.

Apple watch is coming and there loads of sexy looking Android wear watches already in existence, but here’s why I am renewing my vows with the Pebble watch for the third time:

Design: They have improved on it to be 20% thinner. Although the previous models weren’t chunky anyway, it’s still nice to have something slightly slimmer on the wrist to slide very well under my sleeve. Curved design also means it will sit on the wrist comfortably well.

Durability: They have used a Gorilla Glass screen, so it’s better with scratches and accidental bumps, should you be wearing it during sporting activities, after all it has a stop watch. It is also water resistant, making it very durable. Not many other smart watches on the market are water resistant.

Customization: You can use any 22mm watch strap you can buy, so look out for those websites that will pop up offering nice leather straps. The last edition came with two options, a leather and metal strap to suit your personality.  Oh the previous versions worked well with custom skins, available on various sites.

Extras: It is always-on, so there is not need for extra sensors to activate the screen when you twist your wrist and it is easy to read in daylight.

Best bits: It is compatible with iOS and Android. Working in this industry means I am always testing differing platforms, and having it work with those major ones is a bonus.

Ultimately! The battery lasts 7 days! SEVEN DAYS!, need I say more? You can join the kickstarter project by clicking here.  Oh did I mention it’s also open source? expect some cool apps!
