What's This?

Google revealed a new personalised mapping experience and has built both Google Maps on mobile and on the web from the ground up, to make sure these changes make big effects on the user.

Google Maps, to this point, has never had any major revenue streams, even though Google has invested a lot of time and effort into developing mapping tools and making sure the whole world was connected.

This includes Google sourcing work out to third parties, getting interior designs and making sure businesses and points of interest are marked in an area.

However, today sparks a new era of Google Maps, one with more personalised data for the user and one where businesses can create advertisements and offers straight from Maps.

The experience on Google Maps will be a little different for every user, because of new personalisation tools, everyone will have different items of interest depending on what they like and what their friends like.

Google has also added some unique tools to make sure Maps has an easier user interface, changing the UI with cards to find businesses and areas of interest.

Maps has also been redeveloped using vector based mapping and new 3D images allow map users to see user submitted photos. The photos are all stacked in the exact location they were taken from, giving the user an inside view of a special landmark.

The revenue enhancements allow all businesses to connect with Maps and set up various offers and review lists to make their business seem more popular to users.

Any offer can be redeemed in store just by showing the offer code, we expect this to become part of Google Wallet in the near future, allowing the user to accept the offer, go to the store, pay by NFC and then get a percentage of when billed.
