Alongside the launch of its latest Pixel 10 series smartphones, Google also unveiled a couple of new smart wearables which include the all-new Pixel Buds 2a and the Pixel Watch 4, the latter of which is its latest-generation wearable range. The company has stuffed some pretty interesting features in the Pixel Watch 4, and although it might look very similar to its predecessors, there’s definitely more than meets the eye. Let’s take a look!

The Pixel Watch 4 comes in two different sizes, which consist of 41mm and 45mm variants that share a similar overall design. The displays are rounded unlike most other Wear OS watches on the market, and come with Google’s “Actua” AMOLED touchscreen technology. They are pretty bright, reaching up to 3,000 nits which should provide more than enough visibility when outdoors. The charging pins are now placed on the side of the chassis as well, as opposed to previous designs seen on older Pixel Watches. Finally, they also feature IP68 dust and water protection, in addition to Gorilla Glass 5 protection for the displays.

Take a look under the hood, and you’ll find that the Pixel Watch 4 series runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chipset, which is assisted by a Cortex-M55 co-processor. For battery, you’re getting a 455 mAh battery inside the larger 45mm variant, and a smaller 325 mAh battery for the 41mm watch. According to Google, users can expect up to 72 hours of battery life for the larger model, and around48 hours of usage per charge for the smaller one.

As expected, the Pixel Watch 4 series comes with Google’s Wear OS 5, which packs a ton of nifty smart features for everyday usability, as well as support for Google’s Gemini AI software. This means that users can hook up the watch to their Google account, and interact with different devices as well as access information via voice commands with Gemini. It’s a handy feature to have, especially for folks who are also using Google Pixel smartphones.

The Pixel Watch 4 series also supports health tracking integration with Fitbit, although one big feature that Google is marketing this year is the addition of emergency satellite SOS calling, beating out even Apple’s own wearable line. Other features include a built-in skin temperature sensor, ECG monitoring, SPO2 monitoring, compass, altimeter, barometer, and gyroscope. Users also get Loss of Pulse Detection, Fall Detection, Car Crash Detection, and Safety Check for live location sharing. As for pricing, the Pixel Watch 4 starts at £349 for the 41mm WiFi model, although there’s also an LTE version available for a bit more.
