What's This?

Another day, another budget Samsung phone—it’s not available for the entire world yet, although Samsung’s latest affordable smartphone has already arrived for markets in Southeast Asia. Initially spotted on Samsung’s Philippine website, the new Galaxy A07 is a device that’s meant for users who only need the bare minimum when it comes to smartphones, and aren’t too keen on getting a high-powered device.

The Galaxy A07’s biggest selling point isn’t powerful hardware or a sleek design; instead, Samsung is banking on the phone’s affordability, as it’s priced at just around $140 when converted. In a day and age where even midrange phones are pushing $500-$600 prices, having a much cheaper option doesn’t sound too bad at all. Of course, the price does mean that there are some implications.

Let’s start with its aesthetics. The Samsung Galaxy A07 isn’t looking to win any design awards, as it looks first and foremost like a budget smartphone. You get the thick bezel + notch + chin combo in front and a plastic build all over the phone, although it does keep some signature design elements such as the raised buttons on the right-hand side. Again, we go back to the phone’s incredibly-affordable price point which pretty much explains Samsung’s design choices here. This all-plastic chassis wraps around a 6.7-inch LCD display (sorry AMOLED fans) in front, which comes with an HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate as well.

Things do get a bit better on the inside, though. As such, the Galaxy A07 runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, which isn’t too bad in terms of overall performance. This is backed up by up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Thankfully though, the phone also comes with a microSD card slot for expandable storage. You’re also getting a 3.5mm headphone jack and a built-in fingerprint reader on the side of the phone.

Hardware aside, one big advantage that the Galaxy A07 has is its software support. Samsung says that it will provide up to six years of major Android upgrades and security updates for the phone, which should be ideal for users who tend to keep their devices for longer periods down the line. In any case, we can expect to see the Galaxy A07 arrive for more markets in the coming weeks and months.
