What's This?

Just a couple of weeks after the arrival of the highly-anticipated Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Xiaomi recently announced the launch of two new additions to its POCO series lineup with the POCO M8 and M8 Pro. If they look a bit too familiar, that’s because both devices borrow heavily from the Redmi Note 15 series phones, albeit with some key differences in the mix—let’s check them out!

As these are POCO-branded devices, the POCO M8 and M8 Pro come with a slightly-tweaked version of Hyper OS, with different icons and some POCO-exclusive apps, although it can be expected that they still come with a lot of the same apps found on other Xiaomi and Redmi phones. Between the M8 and M8 Pro however, there are some key differences when it comes to overall processing power—the Pro model runs on a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip with 8GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB memory and storage options, while the regular POCO M8 is powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip with 8GB+256GB and 8GB+512GB variants.

Both phones come with similar designs, with the same squared-circle camera module that we saw on the Redmi Note 14 Pro phones, and subsequently the Note 15 series. One difference though is that the POCO M8 Pro adopts a larger frame with a mostly flat design, with a screen that subtly curves near the edges, similar to 2.5 glass; meanwhile, the POCO M8 comes with a slightly-smaller display which fully curves around the sides, something that Xiaomi continues to use in its newer phones. The difference in size lso means that you’re getting different battery configurations: 6500mAh for the M8 Pro with 100W charging, and 5520mAh with 45W charging for the M8.

As for the displays themselves, the POCO M8 Pro features a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3200 nits, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection. On the other hand, the regular M8’s curved screen measures just 6.77 inches, although it does maintain the 120Hz refresh rate and 3200 nits of peak brightness. Other features include a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera combo for the Pro, and a 50MP main and 2MP depth sensor setup for the regular model.
