If you own a Pixel Tablet, then you might be glad to hear this bit of news—nearly three years after the device’s original launch, Google has decided to add a couple more years of software support for the tablet. This was spotted after the company updated the official support page for the device, which now states that it will receive software updates until June 2028.

Originally launched back in 2023, the Pixel Tablet was launched alongside the Pixel 7a, and was only scheduled for three years of Android version upgrades, much like the rest of Google’s product line before the arrival of the Pixel 8 series. However, the company did add a few years of software support for some of its older devices like the Pixel 6 (going from three to five years) and it’s now done the same for the Pixel Tablet, which is a bit surprising since Google has somewhat slowed down its focus on tablets at the moment.
Following the Pixel Tablet’s arrival, there was a bit of divisiveness among Pixel fans regarding the device, and while some praised Google for trying its hand again at the tablet game (after several earlier attempts), some decried the device’s lacklustre specs, while others compared it to more capable competitors like Apple’s popular iPad range. It doesn’t help that Google isn’t planning on working on a sequel anytime soon, leaving tablet fans looking for other product alternatives.

In terms of features, the Pixel Tablet comes with a unique look that borrows visual elements from the Pixel 5 with a smooth matte rear panel, and attached magnetically to a dedicated speaker dock which did make for a unique user experience. That being said though, other specs like the device’s unimpressive Tensor G2 chipset, the 60Hz display, as well as the somewhat expensive asking price didn’t do it any favours. Still, some argued that it was finally great to once again have a Google-powered tablet.

Going back to the main topic of discussion however, Pixel Tablet owners (at the moment, at least) can rest assured that their devices will still get some updates for the next couple of years, which is much-welcome news. Who knows, maybe by then Google might have changed its mind on tablets once again.
