What's This?

Another day, another new Redmi phone—Xiaomi recently announced that it’s added a new model to its budget-friendly Redmi series in the form of the new Redmi 15C, which comes with a rather-affordable £149 price tag, undercutting a lot of other entry-level smartphones on the market. That being said though, it’s somewhat expected that a price as low as this one comes with some compromises, but what exactly do you get with the 15C?

Let’s start with the design and display on the phone—unsurprisingly, the Redmi 15C comes with a plastic chassis and an overall look that immediately tells you of its budget origins. Available in Midnight Black, Mint Green, Moonlight Blue, and Twilight Orange, the 15C features a display that’s surrounded by considerably thick bezels, in addition to notch cut-out and chin on the bottom. As for the display itself, Xiaomi has equipped the 15C with a 6.9-inch screen with an HD+ resolution, as well as a 120Hz refresh rate, which should look good in most usage scenarios.

Going over on the inside, the phone comes with a MediaTek Helio G81-Ultra processor, another indicator of the phone’s wallet-friendly price. It’s available in a number of memory and storage configurations starting at 4GB and 128GB, although there’s also an 8GB RAM model which should be more ideal for day-to-day usage. Thankfully though, the phone also comes with expandable storage, so you can pop inside a micro SD card to save your photos, music and movies, with as much as 1TB of support included.

On the software side of things, you’re getting Xiaomi’s own Hyper OS alongside Android, and a handful of pre-installed apps from both Xiaomi, Google, and other third party service providers. Like a lot of newer smartphones these days, the phone comes with a large 6,000 mAh battery (larger than on most flagship phones, actually), which also supports up to 33W charging speeds. As it is a budget phone, there’s no mention of wireless charging compatibility on the Redmi 15C, which is somewhat understandable considering its price.

For its cameras, the Redmi 15C features a dual-lens setup headed by a 50MP main camera which Xiaomi says comes with AI enhancements for better-looking photos, as well as an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls; video recording on both camera setups maxes out at 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second. Given its price bracket, the Redmi 15C mainly competes with other smartphones like Samsung’s new Galaxy A17, which is a bit more expensive at £179.
