What's This?

Nothing has grown to build a name for itself in the consumer tech space, using a combination of marketing mystery as well as new approaches to hardware in order to provide users with unique alternatives, at least as far as audio and mobile phone technology goes. The company’s Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Ear (1) and Ear Stick products have gained the company a growing following, and it looks like fans are about to get more Nothing goodness soon.

Back at Mobile World Congress 2023 held in Barcelona, Nothing CEO Carl Pei took to stage to announce that the company will be showcasing two upcoming products this year, in the form of a mystery product set to launch within a month, and the much-anticipated sequel to its first flagship Android smartphone.

Nothing has since given a few teasers with what users can expect with the new product – a page on its official website directly states that the Nothing Ear (2) is launching soon, with the current tagline of “Better Sound, Better Clarity, Just Better” pasted on the page. The new earbuds are scheduled to launch on March 15, 3PM UK time, which we highly expect will be through an online event.

Of course at the moment, there’s no in-depth information regarding the design, hardware, and pricing of the new Nothing earbuds, so we’ll have to wait for more information about the product once it launches, or if someone online manages to secure some leaks.

In terms of internal specifications, the first-generation Nothing Earbuds came with 11.6mm drivers, active noise cancellation features, and up to 34 hours of battery life. The earbuds were the first Nothing-branded products to feature the company’s minimalist hardware design, a branding element which was later seen on the Nothing Phone.

As for the second-generation Nothing Phone, Carl Pei didn’t share any hardware details during the MWC announcement, except that the phone will come with a Qualcomm Series 8 chipset. There’s a lot of speculation at the moment however, that it might be the Qualcomm 8+ Gen 1 – given the company’s rather modest choices when it comes to mobile processing power (as seen on the Phone 1), it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the slightly older Qualcomm chip on the upcoming device.

in terms of hardware specs, the Nothing Phone (1) came with a 6.55 OLED display with Gorilla Glass protection and a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778+ 5G chipset, and a 50MP dual-camera array, to name a few. What stood out the most about the phone was its Glyph Interface, a set of LED lights on the rear panel of the device’s transparent chassis, which worked as notification LEDs, and even played along to music.

With all that being said, we can expect Nothing to build upon these features, and we’ll no doubt see a more polished and refined set of products once the Ear (2) and the Phone (2) arrive on the market.
