What's This?

When it comes to action cameras and general on-the-go photography, DJI is probably one of the most recognizable brand names out there, and for good reason. The company’s lineup of imaging hardware and software is designed to get you the best-looking photo and video as possible, without sacrificing overall quality.

With that in mind, DJI recently announced one of the latest additions to its action camera product lineup in the form of the DJI Osmo Action 4. Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI states:

“The Osmo Action 4 is a testament to our commitment to high-quality imagery, reliability, and user-centric design… We can’t wait to see how our users harness the power of this exceptional camera to create breathtaking content that pushes their limits and inspires others to embark on their own remarkable journeys.”

The Osmo Action 4 packs a ton of great features, and is built to be exceptionally tough for users who are looking for a camera that can keep up with an active lifestyle and such. What exactly does it come with? Let’s find out.

External Design

As mentioned earlier, the Action 4 is meant to be a tough piece of kit, which can be brought along on hikes, runs, dives, off-road cycling sessions, and a whole lot more. It’s got a sturdy design with a textured surface for added grip, and comes with 18M waterproofing that lets users film underwater footage. There’s also dual water-stain resistant touchscreens for device operation as well as media playback.

The Action 4 can also be attached to a variety of gear, and there’s an option for users to grab it alongside a chest strap mount, helmet chin mount, adhesive base kit, handlebar mount, bike seat rail mount, wrist strap, mini extension rod, 60M waterproof case, and a hanging neck mount, to name a few. The camera is powered by a battery that DJI says can film continuously for over 2.5 hours and supports fast-charging, allowing the camera to replenish up to 80% battery in just around 18 minutes. The battery is also designed to withstand low temperatures, thanks to a freeze-resistant design.

Image and Video Capture

Of course, the biggest highlight of the Osmo Action 4 is its photo and video capabilities. The camera comes with a 1/1.3″ sensor with a f/2.8 aperture, and a 2.4μm-equivalent pixel size that allows it to film footage at up to 4K/120fps, with a 155° ultra-wide FOV for better detail even in low-light scenarios. There’s also DJI’s built-in “HorizonSteady” stabilization modes, for reduced shakiness in footage and shots.

The camera features a 10-bit D-Log M colour mode that gives users access to over one billion colors and a wider dynamic range, as well as an advanced colour temperature sensor that DJI says can provide life-like colour tones in photos and videos. Other details include built-in microphones for audio capture, Wifi connectivity for file transfers and live-streaming sessions, as well as advanced wind-noise reduction.

For filming, the Action 4 features a magnetic quick-release design so users can switch between setups depending on their needs. There’s a native vertical shooting feature made possible by a Horizontal-Vertical Protective Frame for folks who want to film footage for their social media feeds. Additionally, the camera comes with customizable modes alongside a Quick Switch button for easy transitions between different shooting modes.

Price and Availability

You can grab the Osmo Action 4 from DJI’s official website and select retail partners in different bundles, which consists of a Standard Combo that goes for $399 and includes the camera itself as well as several mounting accessories and batteries. If you have a bit more to spare, there’s a slightly more expensive version called the Adventure Combo that retails for $499 with even more bundled accessories and batteries.
