What's This?

One thing I’ve had to deal with at first was the problem of having internet and my files between my MacBook, my iPhone and iPad. Especially if you’re always on the move read this:

How do I currently do it:

If i designed a logo for a client on my Macbook, ideally I would go into a meeting and show the client using my iPad, and how I do that is by emailing the image file then open it up on my iPad, so when I download it on my iPad it uses up some data from my 2GB a month plan which I’m not happy with and sometimes have to pass it on to my client in charges. What I also do is put in on my iPhone in order to show it to my colleagues on the move without emptying my messenger bag.

Solution:

1. I shopped around for best internet deal and found that in the UK Three UK provide a MiFi device which allows me to share internet between my iPad, iPhone and Macbook on the go just like a wireless router, all I have to do is charge it up every night and where possible charge it in the car. I tend to carry the charger around with me so if i ended up in Starbucks and Starbucks internet is slow, i pull my MiFi out and get surfing at good speeds. It’s also protected with a password of my own (WEP KEY) which means no one can tap into my data usage. Another thing was the way I can use it with my iPad2 and iPhone4 for FaceTiming untill maybe Apple allows users to FaceTime over 3G or 4G (jailbreak allows you to though at the moment).

2. To share my files, and make it more efficient, I downloaded Dropbox and signed up, so every file I create, I drop it in my box for viewing across all platforms (iPhone, iPad, Macbook); what’s even great is that I created a folder for each of my clients and shared those folder with them so they get to see designs well in advance before the meeting. Yes I know about iCloud and it’s capabilities buy, Dropbox is still better for me at the moment, you can check the comparison here

3. I signed up for Logmein; reason for this is that sometimes I need access to my Mac and PC desktops back at home and office. Logmein is a free service that allows me to remotely control my Home or Office desktop systems from my iPad or iPhone using the mobile client called Logmein ignition which also allows file transfers for free; i tend to use this to move files that i forgot to drop in my box or to make minor changes on Photoshop to designs I’ve made.

Can you think of any other solution or maybe tell us how you do it?
