What's This?

With 2023 slowly drawing to a close, we’ve already gotten a preview of OnePlus’ new and upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 12. While it might take a bit of time before the device hits Western markets, it’s expected that the company will launch the OnePlus 12 next month, albeit exclusively for buyers in China. With that being said, not much is known about the device at the moment, although a few design renders shared by OnePlus itself reveal a familiar look.

Déjà vu?

As far as appearances go, the OnePlus 12 retains an overall look that’s not too different from its predecessor – ever since the debut of the OnePlus 11, the company has stuck with an off-center circular camera module on the phone’s rear panel, which is arguably the most recognizable design trait of the OnePlus flagship series devices. Other design elements include a glass build with metal sides on the frame, as well as the signature alert slider – of course, there’s also the Hasselblad logo on the phone’s camera, which has become a staple in OnePlus devices ever since the partnership between the two companies.

OnePlus also launched a teaser for the phone on YouTube, which showcases the phone’s design.

What’s Inside?

At the moment, OnePlus isn’t too keen on unveiling the phone’s full specs sheet just yet (and understandably so), although it shouldn’t come as a surprise if we see the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 inside the phone. Qualcomm’s new premium mobile chipset is expected to appear in a lot of flagship phones this year (unless they’re packing the Dimensity 9300 instead), and it’s very likely that this same chip will come with the OnePlus 12, as the company has always used Qualcomm chips in its flagship devices.

With that being said, there are some speculations all over the web as to what we could expect with the OnePlus 12 in terms of hardware – the phone is said to feature a 2K OLED display, which can reach a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits, making it one of the brightest phones in the market if true. It’s also rumored that the phone will feature a 5,400 mAh battery, a rather commendable size especially for a flagship phone.

Camera Hardware

As seen in the product photos, the OnePlus 12 will feature a quad-camera array on the circular module in the rear panel, and we can also expect a selfie camera to round out the camera setup on the phone. As mentioned earlier, OnePlus has continued to partner with Hasselblad to bring the latter’s camera features and developments over to its smartphones.

It’s a move that OnePlus hopes will be enough to challenge established names in the mobile photography arena such as Apple, Samsung, and Google, to name a few. With that in mind, the phone is expected to feature a 48MP main sensor, which will be accompanied by a 3X periscope lens for zoom duties. There’s no word so far on the full set of imaging hardware for the phone, so expect to know more once it makes its debut.

When Does it Arrive?

With the OnePlus 12, the company has decided to launch it first for Chinese markets on December 5, and we can expect a global release in 2024. There’s no specific or official word on pricing yet, so we’ll have to keep an eye out for any new info on the OnePlus 12 later in December.
