What's This?

Alongside smartphones, smartwatches and wearables have grown a lot in terms of popularity among buyers, and a lot of big brands have likewise seized the moment, launching their own line of smart wearable devices. At the moment, one could say that there’s a big playing field due to the wide variety of wearable devices available for consumers.

With that in mind, Huawei recently showcased its latest addition to its watch lineup and successor to its Huawei Watch GT 3 series, the Huawei Watch GT 4. The GT 4 watches blend both stylish looks with a healthy dose of modern smartwatch features to give consumers a balance between form and function. Huawei has gone all out with different design variants, but the watch is primarily available in two models with a small 41mm version and a larger 46mm version.

Style and Substance

In terms of design, the larger 46mm variant has a more “rugged” and utilitarian look to it, placing it among the likes of competitors such as the Apple Watch Ultra series and Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Classic and Pro line. The 46mm model comes in a handful of different variants, which include black, brown, green, and a grey Steel model which features a more premium design, thanks to its all-metal build (it also goes for £299).

The 46mm version of the GT 4 also comes with a more robust bezel, which looks like it’s designed to take a bit more knocks and bumps. By contrast, the smaller 41mm edition has a “lighter” feel to it, as well as slimmer bezels surrounding the display.

Starting £229, the smaller 41mm GT 4 model comes in different models, which includes a selection of a white, silver, and light gold model. As mentioned earlier, it seems that Huawei has designed the smaller 41mm variant to be the more “fashion-oriented” of this year’s GT watches, thanks to an appearance which is reminiscent of jewellery.

Built-in Features

As for what users can expect in terms of hardware, there’s a lot that the the Huawei Watch GT 4 series adopts from the GT 3, and subsequently older Huawei Watch models. You get your usual array of fitness-tracking features such as heart rate and step tracking, as well as sleep measurement. Users can also expect cycle tracking and a temperature sensor, which is something that we’ve been seeing more of from other manufacturers, and it’s certainly nice to see the feature on here.

Other hardware details include built-in dual-band GPS tracking, a compass, microphones and speakers for calls, in addition to a barometric altimeter. For battery, Huawei claims that the Huawei Watch GT 4 can last for up to two weeks of usage, although this will of course depend on your activities and use patterns.

As expected from Huawei, the Huawei Watch GT 4 models run on Harmony OS, the company’s signature proprietary software platform. While it’s not as feature-packed as Google’s Wear OS or even Apple’s Watch OS, there’s enough features to satisfy most users, especially those who are after the essentials with a bit of added customisability, including a wide selection of different watch faces. There’s also an app store for users to download additional software, which is always a welcome feature. Also present is Huawei’s Stay Fit, which helps users keep track of their activity and calorie count.

With all that being said, Huawei’s newest wearables will be available to buyers in the UK, and you can check them out over at Huawei’s official website.
