What's This?

Honor’s continued foray towards breaking into several price segments in markets all over the world has yielded some fairly successful results, and the company looks to capitalize on it with its latest addition to its smartphone range, the Honor 70 Lite. Launched just nearly a month after MWC in Barcelona, the 70 Lite is meant to undercut more expensive smartphones, but are the hardware tradeoffs worth it? Let’s take a look.

In terms of hardware, the 70 Lite is mainly intended for buyers on the lookout for a wallet-friendly device. The handset comes equipped with a 6.5-inch LCD screen with a waterdrop notch for the front camera, with a 1600×720 display resolution. For a phone released in 2023, this is rather archaic, but then again the main highlight of this device is its price tag. The screen is wrapped inside a polycarbonate body, which is unsurprising given the cost.

Inside the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset, paired with an Adreno 619 GPU. There’s also 4GB of RAM onboard, paired with 128GB of internal storage. This should be another indicator that the phone is strictly meant for folks on a budget, who are looking for a handset mostly for moderate usage. You won’t be running Genshin Impact on this phone, that’s for sure.

As for camera hardware, the device packs a trio of camera which consists of a 50 MP camera, accompanied by a pair of macro and depth sensors, as well an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The main camera will be able to capture video of up to 1080p video resolution, and the front camera will support 2D face recognition for biometrics.

Other biometrics options include fingerprint detection, courtesy of a fingerprint scanner built into the power button on the right-hand side. Powering the phone is a pretty large 5000 mAh battery, which comes with support for 22.5W wired charging speeds.

As for software, the Honor 70 Lite will come with Android 12 and Magic UI 6.1, which is a bit of a downer considering we’re seeing Android 14 pretty soon this year. This will include some proprietary Honor apps and software, which depending on your preferences should either make or break the user experience for you. Also included is 5G connectivity, NFC functionality, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio funcitonality.

The Honor 70 Lite is only one of many phones announced by Honor this 2023 alone. A few weeks prior, the company launched the Honor Magic5 Pro at MWC 2023, and announced the global launch of the Honor Magic Vs, its premiere foldable device.

If you’re in the UK and want to grab the 70 Lite, buyers can get the phone right now for £199.99. The device will be available in a trio of colours, including Titanium Silver, Ocean Blue, and Midnight Black, for £199.99. Honor is also running a special Early Bird Discount, where users can order the HONOR 70 Lite now for a lower price of £179.99 with code AH70L20 before 31st March.
