What's This?

Samsung’s efforts towards pushing its smart TV and monitor product range to more audiences worldwide has certainly paid off, with the company seemingly announcing new monitors all the time. As such, Samsung recently unveiled its latest smart monitor, the Samsung ViewFinity S9. The S9 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, the ViewFinity S8 which was launched last year.

Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics speaks about the S9’s launch:

“Our new 5K monitor is designed to deliver the highest performance and best experience for professionals in creative and visual industries… With the ViewFinity lineup, we will provide creatives with top-notch visual experiences, along with the lifelike color clarity and versatile connectivity they need to achieve the best in any project.”

Display Specs

Samsung has designed the ViewFinity S9 to serve as the centrepiece for high-productivity desktop setups, targeting content creators, video editors, and more. The screen measures 27 inches, and features a 5K resolution (5120×2880 pixels), which Samsung boasts as “50% bigger than other UHD monitors.” The company adds that this resolution reduces the need to zoom into objects on the screen, especially for users who are working on their projects.

The ViewFinity S9 also comes with 99% DCI-P3 and 218 PPI (pixels per inch), with a typical brightness of 600 cd/m. For connectivity, the monitor features USB type C connection ports, in addition to mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt 4 ports. The screen also comes with built-in speakers and 4K camera for communication, and even allows users to charge other devices on the monitor with up to 90W charging speeds (if supported).

Software and Pricing

Given the high-precision performance needed of modern desktop displays, Samsung has also equipped the monitor with some much-welcome software utilities. The ViewFinity S9 comes with compatibility for Samsung’s Smart Calibration feature, allowing users to calibrate and personalise their display settings in a more in-depth manner using their smartphone. Furthermore, Samsung says that the monitor will also support the SmartThings app, for added customisability options.

Of course, the monitor is also designed for play in addition to productivity. There’s a selection of pre-loaded smart TV apps in case you’d rather use the monitor for content streaming and gaming, with access to popular services like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and more. The ViewFinity S9 will come priced at $1,599, and is expected to arrive sometime in August this year for several regions and markets worldwide.
