What's This?

Honor’s efforts in going beyond the smartphone market to tap into other consumer electronics categories has been commendable, especially given the state of its current product portfolio. Once a subsidiary of Huawei, Honor has pretty much established its own identity in the tech scene, and its new laptop is evidence of that.

More specifically, the Honor Magic Book X 16 seeks to wow consumers with a reasonably affordable price, sleek design, and specs to match. Honor recently announced the laptop’s availability for UK buyers, although what exactly can you expect with Honor’s midrange laptop? Let’s take a look.

Screen and Design

The Honor Magic Book X 16 comes with a metal chassis that adds a premium look to its overall design, bringing it closer to other devices like Apple’s MacBook series in terms of overall aesthetics. It’s a fairly safe and solid design choice, and keeps the laptop looking sharp. This extends to the laptop’s 16-inch display, which features fairly slim bezels on the top and sides in addition to a 16:10 aspect ratio.

The large size also means that there’s room for additional keys – the Magix Book X 16 comes with a separate numeric keypad, something not seen on smaller 13-14 inch laptops. On the sides you’ll find a stereo speaker setup. The laptop also carries several ports for connectivity, including two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as a USB-C port. There’s also biometric scanning by way of a fingerprint reader built into the Magic Book X 16.

Internal Hardware

Honor says that it has equipped the Magic Book X 16 with a Intel Core i5-12450H processor, which is aided by 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It’s nothing too fancy or bleeding edge, but for most users this should be enough for moderate tasks, and maybe even a bit of light gaming. Honor says that the storage is expandable to 1TB, which is a much-welcome addition.

The laptop ships with Windows 11 onboard, although Honor has included some of its own software – users will have access to Honor Connect, as well as Multi-Screen Collaboration to unify user experience between multiple Honor devices and apps. In terms of power, the Magic Book X 16 also comes with a 60Wh battery, which charges via the USB-C connection port.

Pricing and Availability

The HONOR MagicBook X 16 2023 will be available in Mystic Silver, starting at £699.99 for buyers in the UK. Honor is also running a promo for buyers who purchase a MagicBook X16 before July 4, allowing them to purchase an Honor Pad 8 for just an additional £9.99.
