While it’s not the mobile hardware powerhouse that it once was, Motorola continues to push forward with the development of budget-friendly smartphones, that offer users all the basics without necessarily breaking the bank. As such, Motorola recently introduced the new Moto G34 5G, the latest addition to its entry-level phone lineup which packs an interesting design, and some pretty familiar hardware elements.
With the launch of the Moto G34, Motorola has made it a point to highlight the handset’s 5G capabilities, an emerging technology which is still in the process of being adopted in different parts of the world. With that being said though, what else can we expect from the G34 5G? Let’s take a look.
Design and Display
The Moto G34 5G doesn’t do anything revolutionary in terms of overall build and design, although we suppose that’s a good thing. Made with an integrated “vegan leather” back, the device features a design that doesn’t stray too far from what we’ve seen on other budget handsets, especially with the large bottom bezel and the upper left camera bump. The G34 5G is available in Charcoal Black, Ice Blue, Ocean Green, and Vanilla Cream colour variants, and packs a 6.5-inch display, which houses a hole-punch selfie camera.
The sides of the phone house hardware controls including the power button and volume rockers, while the bottom side contains the USB-C charging port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and speaker grille.
Internal Specs and Software
The phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, an unsurprising choice given the phone’s price bracket. This is backed up by 8GB of built-in RAM, with a choice of either 64, 128, and 256GB of expandable storage via microSD. Meanwhile, powering the G34 5G is a 5,000 mAh capacity battery, which is a common sight on most budget smartphones these days.
Thankfully, the handset does ship with the latest Android 14 version pre-installed. Motorola’s Android UI doesn’t add much in the way of third-party software either, resulting in a mostly clean user experience, unlike what you’d find on phones from Samsung or Xiaomi, for example.
Cameras, Pricing and Availability
For camera hardware, the Moto G34 5G packs a dual-camera setup on the rear panel, housed in a rather unique-looking camera bump. We suppose this is one way to differentiate the handset from the myriad of Android handsets on the market with similar looks and designs.
This camera setup includes a 50MP f/1.8 sensor, as well as a 2MP f/2.4 macro sensor. The front of the device houses a 16MP sensor for selfies and video calls. Video capture maxes out at 30 fps at FHD resolution on the main camera, and 30 fps at HD resolution on the macro sensor. It’s nothing too impressive, although we have to keep in mind the phone’s budget orientation, as well as Motorola’s focus on 5G connectivity.
In terms of pricing and availability the Motorola G34 5G comes in at 169 EUR, and will launch for select markets across Europe, although Motorola might expand its availability in the months to come.
