What's This?

Google might be preparing to wrap up the Nexus program, after a few years of launching smartphones and tablets, it looks like Mountain View wants to start a new Android Silver program, offering the very best on Android with new incentives to consumers.

This will not begin until 2015, according to new reports that have shown Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 in Chromium code. This means Google has at least two new Nexus devices to announce in 2014, both advancements on the current generation.

The Nexus 6 has been leaked quite a few times now and we know a few bits of what will come, including the design which will be modelled from the LG G3 and the release date, a lot of sources are saying Google will launch this at I/O in late June.

Release dates are always questionable similar to price, unlike the design that has to stay relatively the same once leaked, the price and release date can change if Google finds it too early or too expensive, making it hard to get a confirmed date or price.

The Nexus 8 will be the next tablet from Google, apparently in cooperation with HTC. The Taiwanese company has been out of the tablet business for a while now, but Google might be giving them room in the new market, similar to Asus.

Nexus products do well in certain countries and Google knows how to make them successful, even though it doesn’t do much for the manufacturer in terms of revenue, it does boost their numbers of shipments per year, something investors may value.

It also gets the manufacturer close to Google, if the product does well Mountain View will contact them again for next year, even though this is unlikely given the Nexus program is about to close shop and move to Android Silver.
