What's This?

The launch of Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch 6 series smartwatches means that Samsung fans and Wear OS users now have access to premium hardware and software, although this doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to shell out for Samsung’s new device. The Korean electronics giant recently announced the arrival of its latest One UI Watch update, which is available for older wearables.

As such, the update will come with new software features for several wearables including the Galaxy Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch4, and Watch4 Classic, which focus on personal wellness, fitness tracking, as well as device personalization.

Wellness and Customizability

The One UI 5 Watch update comes with a ton of wellness functions for users, and even customizable style options for users who own the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 4 series devices.

For one, the update comes with an upgraded sleep management feature, enabling users to get a better understanding of their sleep patterns, and even an accessible Sleep Coaching function that’s built into their watch. Samsung has also included updates to the user interface, which the company says adds a bit of convenience when keeping an eye on their progress.

Additionally, the new update also allows compatible Galaxy Watch devices to connect with saved home devices, and adjust their settings to give users less distractions and help focus on sleeping. The watch’s LED infrared sensor also works to minimize distractions.

In terms of personalization, Samsung says that Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 4 users will have access to wider variety of watch face. Additionally, Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Active 2 devices will also receive some newer watch faces as well, although these will come later in the Fall.

Fitness Tracking and Camera Controls

For fitness tracking, the One UI 5 Watch update also gives users personalized tools to better set their fitness goals. For example, the Personalized Heart Rate Zone analyzes users’ physical capabilities, in order to determine and establish optimal running intensity levels. Samsung has also expanded the pre-existing workout trackers (previously numbering over 100), and users can now record runs on the track with the Track Run feature, as well as the Custom Workout feature.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro models will receive improved GPX features, so users can now explore additional routes in a more convenient manner, and will be able to search and download various GPX route files in nearby locations. The Route Workout feature has also received an expansion for more activities, including walking, hiking, and cycling.

The new One UI Watch update also lets Galaxy Watches play nice with Galaxy Z Flip 4 devices, thanks to a more optimized camera control feature. Samsung has added a dedicated quick access button that can be activated from the Galaxy Watch, allowing users to control their foldable’s camera to switch between the Z Flip 4’s different camera modes, zoom controls, and more.

Galaxy Watch users will also be able to access the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature – as such, IHRN is now available to Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 4 series users, which comes with comprehensive heart health insights.
