What's This?

As far as cameras and photography gear are concerned, Panasonic’s Lumix line of products is undoubtedly among the top names in the industry, thanks to an impressive variety of cameras, lenses, and the like. With that in mind, the company was recently present at the Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, where it showed off one of its latest products under the LUMIX S line.

As such, Panasonic recently announced its latest Lumix Lens, the LUMIX S 100mm F2.8 MACRO (S-E100). The new lens features a design that’s based on the L-Mount system standard. Weighing at just 298g, Panasonic describes it as the world’s “smallest and lightest” medium-telephoto fixed focal length macro lens, with added versatility for different shooting scenarios thanks to its lightweight and compact profile.

The LUMIX S 100mm packs a newly-developed Dual Phase Linear Motor, in addition to a new focus mechanism that improves its tracking and autofocus speeds, especially when compared to older models. Panasonic says that the lens is ideal for portrait shots with its large aperture, and is even suited for video capture, with barely-audible noise during operation, which should come in handy for users who want to capture the moment without any disturbances. Panasonic adds that the lens is able to suppress focus breathing, in which the angle of view changes caused by movements in the focus position.

Other features include micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure changes, as well as the ability to choose between linear or nonlinear focus ring settings, which are also found in other LUMIX S Series lenses. As for pricing and availability, the Panasonic LUMIX S 100mm F2.8 Macro does carry a somewhat hefty price tag, going for £999 – given the useful features that it packs however, Lumix fans will find a lot to love with the new lens. It will be available at the end of January 2024.
