What's This?

Auto manufacturer Polestar recently announced that it would be teaming up with digital audio company Dirac to bring enhanced audio capabilities to the new Polestar 3. The new collaboration will feature the Dirac Opteo Professional audio solution for in-vehicle entertainment and more.

At the moment, the Polestar 3 packs a 1610-watt Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound audio system that’s able to integrate perfectly with Dirac’s Opteo Professional for a clear, balanced, and immersive sound experience. Roger Hjelm, Head of Connected Car at Polestar states:

“With Polestar 3, we wanted to deliver a high-end audio experience that allows passengers to feel the
depth and breadth of the soundstage, experiencing every subtlety, no matter where they’re sitting in the car. To accomplish our goal, we collaborated with Bowers & Wilkins to provide class-leading in-car audio, then relied on Dirac to ensure the speakers sound their best. Our collaboration with Dirac, a fellow Swedish innovator, helped us ensure that our customers experience the market’s best automotive sound system.”

The Dirac Opteo Professional features multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) mixed phase impulse response correction technology, and works together with the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound speaker system inside the vehicle to enable all the speakers in a car to work in sync for a more immersive audio experience, with drastically reduced signal interference and audio distortion.

Dirac says that this solution essentially “erases the car cabin,” allowing passengers to experience richer and more balanced sound, deep and clean bass. The company adds that this brings a “concert-like” sound experience to the Polestar 3. Lars Carlsson, Dirac General Manager of Automotive Audio adds:

“Dirac is leading the world in automobile audio optimization, pioneering technologies that push the
boundaries of automotive sound. As modern vehicles become increasingly complex, automakers like Polestar continue to rely on Dirac to help achieve their signature sound. Our Dirac Opteo Professional solution digitally optimizes speaker performance and ensures the perfect listening experience in any vehicle.”

The Polestar 3 starts at £79,900, and is expected to start shipping from Q2 2024.
