What's This?

While there have been a ton of different rumours and predictions floating about for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 flagship handset range, the company has confirmed at least one specific detail – the new phones will be launched in the next Galaxy Unpacked event, which is scheduled to be held on January 17, just some days after CES 2024. According to Samsung’s official news page:

“A revolutionary mobile experience is coming. Get ready to discover a new era full of possibilities with the latest Galaxy innovations, designed to transform how you live, connect and create. The new Galaxy S series will set a higher standard for the most intelligent mobile experience yet.”

“Experience the epic in everyday life like never before.”

“On January 17, Samsung Electronics will host Unpacked in San Jose. Join us as we unveil the latest premium Galaxy innovations, providing an all-new mobile experience powered by AI. The event will be streamed live on Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, and Samsung’s YouTube channel beginning at 10 a.m. PST, 1 p.m. EST, 6 p.m. GMT and 7 p.m. CET.”

Big Surprises

With that in mind, there have been a lot of leaks around the Galaxy S24 series phones, such as image renders of the upcoming S24 Ultra models, which now appear to ditch the curved-edge display in favour of a more “traditional” flat screen, similar to the base model and Plus S-series phones. The device will however retain S-Pen functionality, as well as the rectangular design. Meanwhile, the standard S24 model (and presumably the Plus variant) will come with a very similar look to the S23, featuring rounded corners and individual camera bumps on the rear panel.

There are of course new features, such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which includes new AI functionality. Generative AI has been a main focal point in recent years, with Qualcomm, Google, and MediaTek incorporating AI editing and software features into new products.

Samsung at CES

It is understandable that Samsung is choosing to showcase its newest phones during its own event, a trend which has become the norm for most brands nowadays. Despite CES 2024 taking place this month, Samsung’s Unpacked event series has always been a major highlight of the company’s presentations, since they feature the newest flagship devices that the company has to offer.

With that being said, Samsung announced that it will be showcasing its new batch of Odyssey Gaming Monitors at CES, which come in three different variants including the Odyssey OLED G9, G8, and G6. The monitors will come with support for Samsung Smart TV features, as well as the company’s Gaming Hub software platform. Additionally, the manufacturer will also feature its upcoming “Bespoke Jet Bot Combo,” a two-in-one vacuum and mop robot cleaner that comes with added steam-cleaning functions, as well as AI-integrated smart features.

Going back to the S24 series, we’re bound to know more specific details about the new phones (at least officially) once the Unpacked presentation unfolds. With that being said, Samsung itself set a high bar with the launch of the S23 series, and we can only hope that the S24 devices will be worthwhile improvements over their predecessors.
