What's This?

In a dash to claim “first” Samsung has developed the Galaxy Round, a device with many similarities to the Galaxy Note 3 and the only major difference coming from the curved design of the smartphone, looking sort of like a taco.

When the leak first got out on the Galaxy Round, some were convinced this was something Samsung would do, others thought it looked to weird to be an actual product. Turns out the people that thought this was something Samsung would do were correct.

As far as flexible goes, the Galaxy Round is not fully there yet, with the same design pre-bended to a certain curve. This may mean durability on the smartphone when hitting the floor is increased, but it doesn’t mean the user can bend the device.

The Galaxy Round has the same faux leather back and metal-looking plastic side accents as the Galaxy Note 3. It also has the same size screen as the Galaxy Note 3, but this time it is an OLED 5.7-inch display.

Inside the device is a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 13MP camera, 2800mAh battery, multiple storage options and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, on top of a slightly altered version of TouchWiz for the curved display.

Samsung is not marketing this cheaply, with the retail price in South Korea around £669. The Galaxy Round is currently only available on SK Telecom and we do not know if they will ship it over to Europe or the US.

Like the Galaxy Gear, it looks like Samsung has rushed to make a half-decent product, without actually looking into how the curved display could be useful. It is likely Samsung will continue the Galaxy Round product line next year, now we wait for LG’s flexible smartphone.
