What's This?

Mobile World Congress played host to a lot of Samsung new 2014 mobile devices, including the Galaxy S5 and two new Gear smartwatches, alongside the new Gear Fit, a wristband with a curved AMOLED display.

The Gear Fit manages to combine the interface of a regular Samsung smartwatch with the design aesthetic of a FitBit or other fitness band, allowing the user to get the best of both worlds.

While the Gear 2 and Gear Neo were both expected, thanks to leaks a few days prior, Samsung kept the Gear Fit secret. This may have been for the best, because it seems to have resinated well with the audience at MWC.

We are still waiting to see an actual device, to test it out against the Fitbit and other fitness bands. The full curved display is the real kicker and we want to put the Gear Fit through its paces, to see if it can take over the roll of smartwatch and smart band.

Samsung appears to be moving the smartwatch into another brand of device, instead of the ‘Galaxy’ moniker they have been using for the past few years, all smartwatches now have the ‘Gear’ name.

Surprisingly, Samsung did not get the “most innovative company” award at Mobile World Congress, that went to LG, who launched the LG G Pro 2 at the event, quite an odd move in our opinion.

There was lots of new tech at the conference and while the big announcements felt a little underwhelming, including the Galaxy S5, Xperia Z2 and LG G Pro 2, there were some hidden gems like the YotaPhone 2 and BlackPhone.

We wonder who the next company will be to make a smart band that has a full color display. Pebble may be looking to create something similar, considering they do not want to add too much functionality onto the smartwatch.
