What's This?

One can find an app for anything and everything at the App Store and there are a handful of apps available for business card scanning too. Most of them are disastrous and make it even more painful than manually updating the contacts. However, a recent update to WorldCard Mobile has transformed it into a even more promising app and has made me write this review.

WorldCard Mobile, the leading business card scanning application for iPhone, uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology to instantly transfer information from business cards to the user’s native contacts. With a simple click of the camera, you no longer have to manually input contact info from business cards or email signatures.

As a business card reader WorldCard Mobile has been popular for sometime and I have been using this app for the last few days. It looks neat with a decent graphics and easy-to-use interface – launch the app, snap a business card and let it recognize the data to update the contacts. The first thing I noticed after using WorldCard Mobile is its recognition ability; it excels in this area as it does it smartly and much faster than other apps. I find the recognized data accurate most of the times and it saves me the pain of manually editing all the fields.

The latest update has made this app work even faster. The developers have added a handy ‘Batch Scan’ mode (I didn’t find it in its previous versions) that helps scan data from multiple business cards in a quick-time. Apart form business card scanning, this app also lets users scan data from email signatures and stored images. Another interesting thing I noticed is its ability to organize the data. It smartly reformats the grabbed data to find and organize them in Title, Company and Work Address fields. It recognizes the differences between even fax and telephone numbers.

I find WorldCard Mobile having better features than any other app in its category. However, the cost of the app (US $5.99) is slightly on the higher side.
