What's This?

It’s no secret that DJI’s massive reach and expertise within the consumer drone industry is impressive, and the company is looking to build on this further with the unveiling of the new Mini 5 Pro, a compact and lightweight drone which DJI says is designed for both enthusiasts and professional creators. One major upgrade with this model is the addition of a larger camera sensor, a first for DJI’s Mini series.

Priced starting at £689, the Mini 5 Pro’s drone’s camera is equipped with a 50MP 1-inch sensor that on paper should be capable of capturing finer details in images, even with low-light conditions. It also includes a new 48mm Med-Tele mode for digital zoom and a True Vertical Shooting function, which allows users to directly create content ready for social media platforms without the need for cropping. For video, the Mini 5 Pro can record 4K/60fps HDR video and 4K/120fps for slow-motion effects, with support for 10-bit H.265 video with D-Log M and HLG color modes, giving creators more control in post-production.

Unsurprisingly, DJI has packed quite a number of features for content creators with the Mini 5 Pro. This includes the “MasterShots” feature, which supports high-level camera movement templates for various shooting styles, including portraits and distant shots, while “QuickShots” provides a variety of modes for to creating dynamic shots; there’s also a “Free Panorama” feature that can stitch multiple images for a seamless panoramic shot of a chosen subject or area. Other built-in features include an “Off-State QuickTransfer” for wireless file transfers at up to 100 MB/s using Wi-Fi 6, even when the drone is powered off.

DJI also says that it’s designed the Mini 5 Pro with new safety and intelligence upgrades. For one, it’s the first in the Mini series to feature omnidirectional obstacle sensing, using a combination of forward-facing LiDAR, multiple vision sensors, and a 3D infrared sensor for better movement. This then allows the drone to actively detect and avoid obstacles even in low-light environments for safer flights and more reliable return-to-home functions. Additionally, the drone features an upgraded ActiveTrack 360° system for more stable subject tracking, along with up to 36 minutes of flight time.
