What's This?

If you were on the lookout for a reasonably-affordable fitness tracker that comes with all the essentials, then you might want to check out what Honor has in store. The company recently unveiled the Honor Band 9, which adopts a lot of the same design principles used in devices like the new Honor Magic 6 series phones, resulting in a rather premium-looking product.

In a crowded smart wearable market however, the Honor Band 9 faces a lot of competition, especially from devices offered by Fitbit, Xiaomi, and even the fairly-recent Galaxy Fit 3. While it does offer a lot of the same functionality found on competing products, there are some stand-out features about the Honor Band 9 that buyers – especially Honor fans – might love.

A Sleek Overall Design

While looks are often a subjective matter, there’s no doubt that the Honor Band 9 manages to excel in the design department. Unlike other fitness trackers that come with more minimalist stylings, Honor has developed its Band 9 with a pretty sleek design that borders on premium. Available in Black, Blue and Purple, the device features a metallic finish that’s layered all over its polycarbonate chassis – it’s also light, weighing at just 16.3g and measuring a thickness of 9.49mm.

This design houses one of the biggest highlights of the Honor Band 9, which is its display. In front you’ll find a 1.57-inch AMOLED display with a 60hz refresh rate, and up to 500 nits of brightness – it’s not the brightest screen ever on a wearable, but does ensure that you’ll be able to see your stats, notifications and time whenever you’re outdoors. Interestingly, the Honor Band 9’s display is curved, something that we don’t see often on budget wearables. It does however manage to set it apart from competing devices which usually come with more subdued looks.

Fitness and Hardware Features

Elegant design aside, the Honor Band 9 is first and foremost a fitness tracker. As such, it comes with a ton of different features developed to keep an eye on your fitness. For one, there’s the “Fitness Age” feature, which enables the device to run a body age assessment based on a users’ maximal oxygen uptake. There’s also a wide range of 96 workout modes, and Honor claims that the band can provide users with accurate data to make the most out of their training sessions.

Of course, there’s also the usual lineup of built-in fitness tracking features including heart rate and SPO2 tracking, sleep monitoring, and menstrual cycle tracking, to name a few. The Band 9 will of course sync your health data with your smartphone, giving you a complete overview of your stats and health. All this runs on a battery that according to Honor can last up to two weeks, and charges via a magnetic charging cable.

If you’re keen on buying the Honor Band 9, it goes on sale this week, and is available for UK buyers through HiHonor for 49.99 RRP, with a £5 off early bird voucher.
