Xiaomi’s Redmi phones undoubtedly played a massive part in the brand’s rise to global popularity, thanks to a combination of affordable pricing and mostly capable hardware. Years later and the Redmi brand is still going strong with consistent launches throughout the year, as seen with the arrival of the Redmi 15. Now available for global markets, the Redmi 15 does make for a tempting offer for budget smartphone buyers—let’s see what it comes with.

Take one look at the Redmi 15, and it’s clear that this is a device meant for people who don’t want to spend too much on a smartphone. In terms of design, it doesn’t do anything particularly exciting, but Xiaomi has instead gone for a more tried-and-tested look with the vertical camera bump, plastic build and what it refers to as a “quad-curved” design for a better in-hand feel. It comes with IP64 dust and water resistance for a bit of protection against splashes, and is available in Ripple Green, Titan Gray, and Midnight Black.

In front, the Redmi 15 features a large 6.9-inch display with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, in addition to an FHD+ resolution. Given its large size, Xiaomi has also managed to fit a 7,000 mAh battery inside, which is pretty large and should be more than enough for most users who are looking for a device that can last all day long. It only supports 33W charging speeds though, so it’s not as fast as what you typically get on other budget smartphones on the market these days. For software, you get Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 skin on top of Android.

Inside, you do get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor, which is a mobile chip designed for entry-level Android phones. The Redmi 15 is also available in either 4GB or 8GB of RAM (we strongly recommend getting the latter), and up to 256GB of internal storage, which can be thankfully increased with a micro SD card (Xiaomi says a maximum of 2TB cards will work). Given the modest processor, we’d imagine that the battery will be able to go for long periods without needing constant charging.

Perhaps one of the most telltale signs of the Redmi 15’s budget limitations is its camera setup, which features a 50MP main camera with a secondary sensor in the mix, and video resolution maxing out at 1080p recording; there’s also an 8MP camera in front for selfies and video calls. The phone is priced starting at £159 for buyers in the UK.
