What's This?

In a way, it feels a bit nostalgic, at least as far as “slim” smartphones are concerned. Following its initial reveal during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked Event a few months prior, the South Korean technology giant has now formally confirmed a launch date for the upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge, which has pretty much been the subject of countless online debates, leaks and rumours these past several weeks.

CHECK OUT: Samsung Cooks Up a Way to Instantly Launch AI on Galaxy A-series Phones

Scheduled for May 13th at 8:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (which translates to 1:00 AM here in the UK), the Galaxy S25 Edge’s big launch will be broadcasted live for audiences via Samsung’s official YouTube channel. While Samsung has mostly stayed relatively quiet regarding the official specs of the handset, many leaks and analysts expect the phone to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which has pretty much been the go-to mobile processor for premium phones this year.

The Galaxy S25 Edge also ditches the triple-lens camera setups on its other S25-series siblings, and will settle for a more conservative dual-camera system. Of course there’s the main highlight of the phone— the S25 Edge will come with a slimmer design overall, although this has understandably raised some concerns regarding the phone’s overall battery life, as Samsung will most likely pack a smaller-capacity cell in order to keep the phone thin.

It’s also worth noting that Samsung is not the only brand that’s preparing to introduce a new Android phone on the 13th, as Sony has also teased its upcoming Xperia devices via its official social media channels. The event presumably includes the highly-anticipated Sony Xperia 1 VII, which will likewise use the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor alongside Sony’s signature smartphone design; additionally, the launch might even feature the Xperia 10 VII as well, although there’s no word on a 5-series model so far.

CHECK OUT: Nubia’s RedMagic 10 Air is an Affordable Gaming Smartphone

In any case, May should be a pretty busy month for new smartphone launches, as Honor will also be introducing its newest additions to the Honor 400 series, which will come with 200MP AI-enhanced cameras. Honor will launch its phones a bit later however, with an event scheduled for the 22nd of May. Earlier on, the brand launched the Honor 400 Lite for buyers in the UK, although the upcoming devices will be priced a bit higher within Honor’s lineup.
