What's This?

While we’ve seen some rather-compelling flagship-grade smartphones from manufacturers like Oppo, it’s no secret that a good number of the brand’s sales figures are courtesy of its more affordable handsets. With that in mind, the company recently Announced its newest smartphone, the Oppo A5x 5G—priced at just around 145 EUR, it’s extremely affordable and is designed to take on competing devices from Xiaomi, Motorola, and Samsung to name a few.

The phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 chipset, and runs on Android 15 alongside Oppo’s proprietary ColorOS 15 interface, meaning that you’re getting some Oppo-exclusive apps and software. You’re also getting 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, a common memory and storage configuration that’s not really surprising to see on a phone of this price. While one could argue that most smartphones now feature a minimum of 8GB of RAM, the A5x 5G’s sub-200 EUR price tag reminds us that corners needed to be cut to bring down its overall cost.

Go over to the front, and the Oppo A5x 5G features a 120Hz LCD display that peaks at 1,000 nits—not the most impressive display setup, although a 120Hz display at this price point is much welcome. We also reckon that this would be enough for most users who just need a device to watch Netflix titles, browse social media, and play a game or two every now and then.

As for its cameras, the Oppo A5x 5G features a setup which consists of a 32MP primary camera on the rear with a secondary sensor. Go over to the front and you’ll find a 5MP front-facing camera for video calls and selfies, and powering this entire setup is a pretty large 6,000 mAh battery which supports 45W fast charging, which given the modest display and chipset should be able to last most users for more than a day.

As for durability and design, the phone comes with an IP65 dust and water resistance rating and MIL-STD-810H certification, and while this doesn’t necessarily mean that you can go about dunking your phone entirely in water, it still adds a bit of protection against accidental splashes and such. The A5x 5G is available in two colours which include Midnight Blue and Laser White, and will make its debut for buyers in India, although there’s no specific date yet on when we can expect it on Western shores.
