With all the recent developments that we’ve seen on AI software over the past couple of years, it’s not exactly uncommon for smartphone brands to launch newer devices with a heavy emphasis on AI-based features. This seems to be the case with the new Honor 400 series, which includes the Honor 400 and Honor 400 Pro. The new devices offer a range of modern features and are among the first Android devices to integrate Google’s Veo 2 functionality through the built-in Photos app.

In addition to AI, Honor has priced both models competitively, with the Honor 400 Pro 5G priced starting at £699.99 and the Honor 400 starting at a much more affordable £399.99 price tag. With that said though, is AI the biggest standout feature on both devices?

In terms of hardware specifications, the Pro model comes with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, a 2800×1280 pixel resolution, as well as a 120Hz refresh rate. Available in Lunar Grey and Midnight Black, the phone comes with a pretty sleek-looking glass and metal build, with a matte rear panel and a slightly-curved sides, which are pleasant to hold. The phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip alongside 12GB of RAM, and is powered by a 6,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, with up to six years of Android software updates.
The Honor 400 Pro also packs a triple-camera setup that features a 200MP “AI Super Zoom” camera, which according to Honor is designed to enhance clarity in highly zoomed photos with a 1/1.4-inch large sensor, f/1.9 aperture, OIS + EIS dual stabilization, and up to 50X zoom. The phone also comes with a 12MP 112° Ultra-Wide and Macro Camera and a 50MP Portrait Selfie Camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

Meanwhile, the standard 400 model is a bit cheaper as mentioned earlier, and features a slightly smaller 6.55-inch AMOLED display that still manages to come with the same impressive brightness levels as the Pro. Powering the device is a 5,300 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM. Unlike the Pro, it lacks the third telephoto lens on the rear camera island.

Hardware aside, Honor is heavily marketing its the AI Image to Video capability, which is powered by Google’s Veo 2 AI tool and works through the built-in Gallery app. This allows users to upload a photo and generate a five-second moving clip. The Honor 400 series also comes with other Google-backed AI photo editing tools. These include AI Eraser, AI Outpainting, AI Erase passers-by, and AI Remove Reflection. It’s important to note that these features rely on Google’s cloud processing, meaning an internet connection is required for them to function.
With that in mind, both phones are available for buyers in the UK, which has been one of Honor’s fastest-growing markets, exceeding its full-year 2024 device growth as well as +70% year-over-year performance, with UK retail and operator distribution doubling.
