What's This?

While it’s not uncommon to see smartphones these days come with larger-than-usual battery capacities, it’s not until now that we’ve seen a mainstream brand launch a device that manages to look relatively sleek and premium, while giving users more than enough power that they need. Meet the Honor Power, an aptly-named Android phone that fits an 8,000 mAh battery inside its slim-looking frame.

Available in three different colours including Snow White, Desert Gold and Phantom Night Black, the phone features a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display that also comes with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 1224 x 2700 pixel resolution. Like a lot of other Honor devices, the screen also houses a front-facing camera setup that mimics Apple’s Dynamic Island cutout, albeit with curved edges. It’s pretty lightweight however, totalling at just 209 grams despite the larger battery capacity.

As it is a midrange device, the Honor Power comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, a mobile chipset that’s commonly seen on phones within the segment, although it’s nevertheless a capable performer. The handset is also available in different memory and storage configurations, starting at 8GB+256GB for the most affordable variant and maxing out at 12GB+512GB for the souped-up version. There’s no memory card slot however, which in a way is unsurprising given that this has been the route for most smartphone brands over the past decade.

The phone’s battery is obviously its biggest highlight. Aside from those occasional niche smartphone models (a lot of which aren’t exactly impressive in the specs department) with monster batteries, you’re not going to find a lot of 8,000 mAh-powered handsets out there. It should be noted however that Honor was able to cram such a large capacity using Silicon-carbon technology, a new battery trend that we’re seeing more of especially from Chinese smartphone brands. It also supports 66W wired fast charging.

For photography, the phone comes with a rear setup that features a 50MP main camera equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and an f/1.95 aperture, alongside a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens. For selfies and video calls, the front-facing camera offers a 16-megapixel resolution with an f/2.45 aperture. As for video recording, the rear camera supports 4K resolution footage, although the front camera is limited to 1080p resolution.

At the moment the Honor Power is exclusive for Chinese markets (at around 200 quid when converted), although we’re hoping that it eventually makes its way to the UK.
