While a lot of modern TVs now come with built-in smart functionality and access to content streaming platforms from the get-go, they’re often expensive, and some users instead opt for third-party solutions in order to stream their favourite shows on their, ahem, older TVs. We’re of course talking about streaming boxes or streaming sticks as they’re sometimes known, which are often more affordable solutions to getting your favourite content onto your living room setup.

With that in mind, Xiaomi recently announced its newest streaming device, which it simply dubs the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen). As you can probably tell from the name, the new device comes with support for 4K content, although there are a few more features that it comes with, which should make it an ideal choice for folks looking for a wallet-friendly smart streaming solution. It’s also priced competitively, going against the likes of the Google TV Streamer, for example.

Like a lot of modern streaming devices these days, the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K comes in a compact size that’s not much larger than most USB storage drives, meaning that it can fit easily behind most TVs. It’s also pretty easy to set up, requiring just an HDMI-compatible TV and WiFi connectivity, so you can even bring this along on holiday trips where you might want to bring your own streaming services and account log-ins, without necessarily signing into a different TV altogether.

In addition to 4K content support, the TV Stick 4K also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. Xiaomi says that the stick features a 6nm processor inside, which integrates a 2.5GHz quad-core A55 CPU and 64-bit processor architecture for a smoother user experience overall. For connectivity, you’re also getting WiFi 6 which should be more than enough for most streaming scenarios and setups.

As for software, the TV Stick 4K runs on Google TV, with support for “Hey Google” voice command support—this of course includes access to major streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube, to name a few. Xiaomi has also included its Xiaomi TV+ platform that features live channels with news, movies and other entertainment, without the need for subscription. Finally, there’s also a bundled Bluetooth remote which also supports voice control functionality.
