What's This?

Over the past few years, we’ve seen quite a number of impressive Android-based gaming handhelds, a lot of which excel as retro emulation machines with improved designs and performance. That bein said, if you’re in the market for a new one then you might want to check out what AYANEO has in store. The company recently announced the Pocket VERT, which it describes as premium Android handheld with a vertical orientation design. What else does it come with though?

In terms of design, the Pocket VERT measures 86.4mm × 143mm × 20.5mm and features a chassis that’s constructed using full-body CNC precision carving, and features an all-glass front which covers the display and the control area. AYANEO says that this ensures perfect consistency across all surfaces and cutouts, in addition to a sleeker look overall. It will also be available in a handful of different colours including Midnight Black, Moon White, and Lava Red colour options.

In addition to its compact size, the Pocket VERT comes with a 3.5-inch LTPS display, which comes with a pretty-sharp 1600×1440 resolution and 615 PPI, offering 10x GB point-to-point pixel accuracy and 450 nits of brightness.

Much like the classic Nintendo Gameboy, the Pocket VERT features a vertical layout with a D-pad and ABXY keys, all crafted from a transparent “crystal-like” material that catches and refracts light, which AYANEO says provides a more premium look. Other controls include a side-mounted scroll wheel, as well as AYANEO’s MagicSwitch key, which supports long-press access to a function menu and provides default volume control.

Going back to the all-glass front, the Pocket VERT introduces a dual-mode intelligent touchpad which is positioned just below the buttons on the front of the device. The touch zones can be mapped to mimic left or right analog sticks, dual-stick mode, and even mouse input. Additionally, the VERT also features shoulder buttons which further complete its aesthetic with a diamond-cut design on the rear panel.

Other features on the Pocket VERT include a massive 6000mAh battery, a stereo speaker setup, and a built-in software system that revolves around AYANEO’s “AYASpace” and “AYAHome” software, which offer a smooth experience with features like customizable buttons and AI translation. With all this being said though, the company has yet to disclose details regarding pricing and availability, so folks eager to get their hands on one might have to wait a bit more.
