While most desktop gaming setups will probably consist of a dedicated gaming PC or laptop at the core, it should be said that having a console setup on your table with its own monitor has a special charm to it. We suppose this is the market that Sony wants to tap into, following the announcement of its new 27-inch Gaming Monitor. As you can imagine it does work with “regular” PC setups, although Sony has added some nice features which work best with a PS5.

Developed by Sony, the new display is designed to deliver the best possible visuals with PS5 games directly to a desktop setup. It features an IPS panel with a QHD resolution of up to 2560x1440p, which Sony says is optimized for comfortable viewing distance. Another key feature is HDR support with Auto HDR Tone Mapping, which can automatically fine-tune HDR settings when connected to a PS5 or PS5 Pro, for better picture quality. For connectivity, the monitor features two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 for compatibility across PS5, PC, Mac, and other devices.
The monitor also includes Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support and refresh rates of up to 120Hz when hooked up to a PS5 or PS5 Pro, and up to 240Hz when used with compatible PC and Mac devices, which should make a nice option for folks considering an upgrade from their current desktop monitor. For PS5 owners, Sony has added a built-in Charging Hook which allows players to charge their DualSense or DualSense Edge wireless controller right on the monitor stand.

Other features include two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port, which can be used with PlayStation Link adapters. The monitor also supports VESA mounting and has a built-in stereo speaker along with support for wired 3.5mm audio output. Sony is also positioning the new monitor as an ideal partner device for the recently-announced Pulse Elevate wireless speakers for a more fleshed-out audiovisual experience.

With all that said, Sony adds that the monitor is scheduled for a 2026 launch in the U.S. and Japan, with further details regarding the exact launch date and pricing to be unveiled soon. There’s no word either if Sony plans to bring this two more countries, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for that one.
