What's This?

Recently, there has been a lot of hype about how the mobile gaming industry is killing console gaming. But, is this strictly true? Although there’s no arguing with the fact that mobile gaming is much cheaper and more accessible than console and PC gaming, is it really set to completely take over console gaming? Evidence suggests that it may come close, but the truth is that even mobile gaming with all its popularity will find it hard to kill mobile gaming. But, it’s damaging the industry for sure, with reports showing that mobile gaming revenue is on the rise, whilst revenue from other types of gaming is declining. Here’s why.

Wider Range of Choice

When it comes to mobile gaming, there is a wider range of choice available. Although console gamers can choose from a broad range of different games to play, the choices available still don’t come close to the hundreds upon thousands of different games available to those playing on mobile devices. For example, if you enjoy playing casino games, slot games or even bingo these can be extremely hard to obtain to play on a gaming console, and there’s little to no chance of you being able to play for money. However, thanks to sites such as mFortune it’s easy to play these types of games on your smartphone or tablet.

Console Games Available on Mobile

Mobile gaming is constantly evolving, making it easier for popular console games to be downloaded in mobile app form. For example, hugely popular console games such as Mortal Kombat, Fifa and Need for Speed are now available as an app which can be downloaded from your smartphone or tablet’s operating system’s app store for a very cheap price or even for free. When compared with the prices of console gaming, those looking to simply play one or two of the most popular console games are opting for the much cheaper option of turning to mobile gaming instead rather than splashing out on an expensive gaming console.

More Flexibility

Yet another reason why mobile gaming is damaging the console gaming industry is that it is more flexible and easier to play games on the go. Although some gaming console manufacturers such as PlayStation and Nintendo have released mobile consoles which can be used on the go, these were aimed at a younger market, and not very popular with adult gamers. However, mobile gaming means that you can play your favourite games discreetly from wherever you are by simply using your smartphone or tablet device. This means that mobile gaming is hugely popular with all age ranges, as mobile games can easily pass the time whether you’re on a long journey or sat waiting for friends. This ease of use makes it extremely hard for console gaming to compete – after all, you’d never see someone sat on a bus with an Xbox!

Do you prefer playing games on mobile, or are you a die-hard console gamer? Or, maybe you do both! Tell us your best gaming experiences in the comments.
